How to handle negative reviews

Negative reviews on social media platforms and Trip Advisor scares to death every business owner.

During the 10 years I am handling Social Media accounts as a social media manager this is the one thing I have seen all of my customers have in common.

They are getting angry, upset, they try to ignore the negative reviews, they try everything possible from replying back with lengthy and angry letters to ask me to remove the comment.


But there is another way! There is a better way.


The first thing I am doing when I am talking to my customers about negative reviews is that we replace this phrase. Instead of negative reviews we use the word "feedback" and this is what is all about. It's a feedback...

Maybe is wrong, unfair, rude whatever but when you use the word feedback a huge part of negative emotions are leaving from you.

So let's see how we handle the "feedback". I am always recommending to my customers to reply back as soon as possible in the most polite manner.

As we are all humans and our emotions can get out of control, I am offering this service for them. You see as a social media manager I am neutral. I can see things from a distance and reply in such a manner that the "angry customer" cools off but most important those who read the reply they get the message that they are dealing with a company that cares about its customer even the grumpy ones.

So when you get negative reviews try those tips and you will see that a negative review if you handle it in a proper manner it's not the end of the world.

Many times loyal customers reply also to the grumpy customer defending the businesses and sharing their positive experience. This is the most wonderful thing as new potential customers see the bigger picture of the business.
